Bethlehem, Pa. (September 3, 2021) - Alvernia University (0-2) fell to 0-2 to start off its 2021 campaign after two losses on the opening night of the Greyhound Premiere, hosted by Moravian College. 

Alvernia opened its night with a 3-2 loss against the host Greyhounds. They then fell 3-0 to Wentworth Institute of Technology in the second match of the night. 

In match one of the evening, Moravian jumped out to a 2-0 lead after taking the first set 25-17 and the second set 25-16. 

Alvernia responded in the third set with a 25-22 win. The Golden Wolves scored the final three points of the set to break a 22-22 tie and come away with a 25-22 set win.

The Golden Wolves then jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in set four and held the lead wire-to-wire for a 25-19 set win to force a decisive fifth set.

The Greyhounds used back-to-back aces to take a five point lead in set five, 12-7. Alvernia wouldn't get closer than four as the Greyhounds took the fifth set 15-10 and the 3-2 match win.

Rachel Sipling led Alvernia with 16 kills. Taylor Suto finished with 12 kills and five aces.

WIT swept Alvernia in its second match of the night, taking a 3-0 victory. Sipling again led Alvernia with 10 kills. Molly Gaffney finished with three blocks, and Abigail McGinley finished with 10 digs.

Alvernia wraps up its appearance in the Greyhound Premiere on Saturday with a noon match against Baruch.
