Golden Wolves Better Falcons, 29-13

Reading, Pa. (Jan. 22, 2022) - Alvernia University (11-3) picked up a 29-13 win over Messiah University (6-7) on Saturday night in Men's Wrestling action at Alvernia's Jack Mcloskey Court.

Following three exhibition matches, Alvernia took a 6-0 advantage after the 125lb bout when Messiah had to medical forfeit.

The Falcons got three back at 133lb following a 3-1 decision over Alvernia's Kyle Seibert, and Messiah then took the lead, 9-6, after Josiah Gehr pinned Alvernia's Quinn Tobin in 1:46.

Alvernia's Jason Rezac tied it back up at 9-9 with a 5-2 decision at 149. The Falcons again retook the lead, this time 13-9, after Nick Barnhart picked up a major decision, 10-1, win in 1:57 against Robert Lawlor.

The Golden Wolves then held Messiah scoreless the rest of the way as Matt Lackman put Alvernia back in front, 14-13, with a technical fall over Messiah's Ike Bryner at 165lbs.

Gavin Hollginsworth held off John Summer for a 9-5 decision to give Alvernia another three points, 17-13.

Isaac Kassis and Tonee Ellis also added three points apiece to Alvernia's total to put the match out of reach for the Falcons, 23-13, going into the heavyweight bout.

The 285lb bout saw a matchup of the 2020 MAC Champion in Palmer Rodenhaber and 2022 MAC Champion in Carter Urich. Rodenhaber and Urich did not face each other at this year's MAC Championship that Urich went on to win last weekend, but Rodenhaber would be the one to prevail tonight with the senior pinning Urich in 2:37 to seal the match in exciting fashion.

Alvernia returns to action next weekend when the Golden Wolves host a Quad Match at Alvernia's PLEX.
