Reading, Pa. (Jan. 28, 2022) - Chatham University (9-9, 8-7) scored two unanswered to keep Alvernia University (7-8-1, 5-5-1) out of reach in a 4-1 win over the Golden Wolves on Friday night in UCHC women's ice hockey at Body Zone. 

The Cougars opened the scoring with a power play goal in the first period with a goal from Fiona Danahy.

Chatham added to its lead in the second period with a cross ice goal from Kaylynn Savoy just three minutes into the second period to make it a 2-0 game.

The Golden Wolves got within one, 2-1, after Lexi Hooper broke away and found Olivia Gilida in front of net. Gilida sent it in and put Alvernia on the board with about five minutes left in the second. 

Both teams played even through the first half of the third period until Chatham won a faceoff at the 12:19 mark and fired a slapshot on net on the first touch off the faceoff to give Chatham an insurance goal, 3-1. 

The Cougars made it a 4-1 game on an empty netter with just under two minutes to play.

In a game that saw 16 power play opportunities between the two teams, Chatham kept Alvernia off the board. The Cougars held Alvernia to 1-for-10 on power play opportunities. 

Julia Beaven made 38 saves in net for Alvernia.

The Golden Wolves look to even the series tomorrow at Body Zone with a 2:00 PM puck drop.
