BOX SCORE Frederick, Md (October 1, 2022) - Alvernia University (3-5-2, 1-0) shutout Hood College (2-4-3, 0-1) 1-0, in MAC Commonwealth women's soccer action Saturday afternoon at Hood. 

This marks Alvernia's first MAC Commonwealth win since they defeated Lycoming 3-0 during the 2018 campaign. 

The Golden Wolves defense was tested throughout a scoreless first half with Hood rattling off nine shots in the first 45 minutes. Alvernia goal-keeper Brynn Bock made eight saves in the first half. 

In the 54th minute, Alvernia was awarded a corner. Gabriella Fontana took the corner and whipped a shot into the box that beat Hood's keeper and found the back of the net to give Alvernia a 1-0 lead. 

The Golden Wolves threatened shortly after when Jocelyn Keller fired a shot to the bottom corner that was saved by Hood's Brenna Ellenberger. 

The Golden Wolves continued to protect the shutout with Bock tallying five saves in the second half with her best coming in the final minute of the game. The Blazers were awarded a free kick just outside of the box which saw Hood's Cade Cordery send a shot toward the top of the goal that was saved by Bock. 

Bock finished with 13 saves and the win. 

Fontana led the Golden Wolves with the lone goal and two shots. 

Alvernia is back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Lebanon Valley to take on the Dutchmen. Kickoff scheduled for 4:00 PM.
