Frederick, Md (October 1, 2022) - Alvernia University (7-1-3, 1-0) opened its MAC Commonwealth schedule with a 2-0 win over Hood College (3-5-2, 0-1) on Saturday night at Hood. 

A scoreless first half saw Alvernia outshoot Hood 8-3 with three of them coming off the foot of Ryan Cogill. Evan Bauer and Connor Kraycik also tallied shots in the first half for the Golden Wolves. 

Alvernia broke the tie after Evan Solley made a save and sent the ball up the field to the foot of Bauer. Bauer played a through ball to Cogill who took it down the right side and fired it past the Hood keeper to put the Golden Wolves up 1-0. 

Alvernia threatened again in the 65th minute when Cogill ripped a shot from inside the box that was fended away by Hood's Nick Humphries. 

With under seven and a half minutes left in the second half, Alvernia's Cogill won a penalty which sent Nick Willson to the spot. Willson fooled the keeper and slotted his shot in the bottom right corner to put the Golden Wolves up 2-0. 

Alvernia's Kraycik threatened a third for the Golden Wolves when he struck the ball out of the air but was denied by the left post. Cogill followed shortly after with a shot that snuck just wide. 

Evan Solley and the Golden Wolves defense fended off three shots in the final five minutes to ensure the shutout. 

Solley ended with four saves and tallied his sixth shutout of the season. 

The Golden Wolves were led by Cogill with seven shots, with four of them being on target. Kraycik finished with three shots and Evan Bauer added an assist. 

Alvernia is back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Lebanon Valley for a rematch of last year's MAC Commonwealth semifinal. Kickoff set for 4:00 PM.
