Golden Wolves and Dutchmen Play to 2-2 Draw

Annville, Pa (Oct. 5, 2022) - Alvernia University (7-1-4,1-0-1) played to a 2-2 draw against Lebanon Valley College (6-5-1, 1-0-1) in a MAC Commonwealth men's soccer matchup at Lebanon Valley.

The Golden Wolves got on the board early when Nick Denlinger whipped in a cross off a corner kick and found the head of Matthew Kerr, who found the back of the net to put Alvernia up 1-0 within the first two minutes of the contest.

Alvernia threatened again when Ryan Cogill ripped a shot that hit the left post that was followed by another shot by Denlinger that was saved in the bottom corner by LVC keeper Dalton Fitterling.

Lebanon Valley evened the score when a corner kick found the foot of Zach Reed who found the back of the net to tie the game at one in the 28th minute.

The Golden Wolves threatened again just before the half when Eli Klinger fired a shot into the bottom left corner that was saved to keep the game knotted at one heading into halftime.

Alvernia got off to a quick start in the second half with the Golden Wolves firing off five shots before Alvernia won a penalty kick which sent Nick Willson to the spot. Willson put his shot in the bottom left corner but was denied by Fitterling to keep the game tied at one.

In the 73rd minute Alvernia's Connor Kraycik ripped one shot that was saved and another that just snuck over the crossbar.

Alvernia goalkeeper Evan Solley made two massive saves with his feet in the last ten minutes of regulation. The Golden Wolves then pushed the ball up the field where Gabe Wunderlich fired a shot that was saved. The ball fell to Kraycik's feet where he avoided the goalkeeper and slotted his shot into the bottom left corner to give Alvernia the 2-1 lead.

The Dutchmen responded almost immediately when Nathan Prex found Aaron Weitzel to tie the contest at 2-2.

Lebanon Valley threatened again in the 85th minute when Kevin Donahue fired a shot that Solley saved to keep the game tied at two. Solley made another big save in the last five minutes when LVC whipped in a cross that was deflected toward the Alvernia net, which Solley saved to keep the game tied at two en route to a 2-2 draw.

Solley finished with three saves for the Golden Wolves.

Alvernia was led by Kerr and Kraycik, each tallying a goal. Kraycik finished with three shots, Cogill and Denlinger finished with a team high five shots each with Denlinger putting a team high three on target. The Golden Wolves would outshoot the Dutchmen 27-17 with 12 being on goal.

The Golden Wolves are back in action Saturday night when they host the Falcons of Messiah to close out Homecoming Weekend at Alvernia. Kickoff is set for 7:00 PM.
