Reading, Pa (Oct. 8, 2022) - #2 Messiah University (11-0-1,2-0) downed Alvernia University (7-2-4, 1-1-1) 4-0 in MAC Commonwealth men's soccer action Saturday night at Alvernia. 

The Golden Wolves threatened early in the contest when Ryan Cogill took off on a breakaway and had his shot saved by Messiah keeper Jared Pavlovich. Pavlovich then saved the second shot off of the rebound by Evan Bauer. 

Messiah scored in the seventh minute of play when Ben Lefever found the head of Luke Groothof,f who found the back of the net, to give Messiah the 1-0 lead. 

Alvernia fired two more shots in the first half with both of them being saved as Messiah took a 1-0 lead into the half. 

The Falcons added a second goal in the 54th minute when Groothoff tallied his second goal of the contest thanks to an assist from Grant Johnson to put Messiah up 2-0. 

Messiah's Trevor Swartz made it 3-0 in the 89th minute with an assist from Lefever. The Falcons tallied their fourth when Matt McDonald found the back of the net just 30 seconds later. 

The Golden Wolves were led by Bauer and Cogill, each with a shot a piece. Gabe Wunderlich added another shot as well. Solley finished with eight saves. 

Alvernia is back in action Tuesday when they host crosstown rival Albright at 7:00 PM.
