Dutchmen down Golden Wolves in Three Sets

Reading, Pa (Oct. 11, 2022) - Alvernia University (9-9,1-4) fell to Lebanon Valley College (13-5,3-3) 3-0, in MAC Commonwealth women's volleyball action Tuesday night at Alvernia. 

Alvernia jumped out to a 5-1 lead early in the first set with Allie Evangelista hammering home two kills. 

Lebanon Valley battled back to even the score at 12 before going on a 4-2 run to take a 16-14 lead. 

The Golden Wolves rattled off three straight points to take a one point lead before the Dutchmen tallied five straight points to take a 21-17 lead late in the first set. LVC then closed the set out with a 4-3 run to take the first set 25-20. 

Alvernia got out to another big lead early in the set, with Rachel Sipling tallying three kills as the Golden Wolves took a 7-3 lead. 

The Dutchmen bounced back with a 9-2 run which gave them a 12-9 lead early in the second set. 

Lebanon Valley maintained its lead before Alvernia rattled off a 6-3 run to even the score at 18. Sipling, Juliana McGlone and Molly Gaffney all added a kill during the run. 

The Dutchmen ended the second set on a 7-1 scoring run which capped off the second set with Lebanon Valley taking the set 25-19. 

Alvernia and Lebanon Valley fought back and forth before LVC took a 11-8 lead in the third set. The Golden Wolves went on a 7-1 run to take a 15-12 lead, with Evangelista adding a kill and Abigail Mcginley tallying two aces while Hailey McDevitt added another. 

The Dutchmen then rattled off a scoring run of their own, this one being a 9-3 run that gave LVC a 21-18 lead late in the third set. Lebanon Valley then closed out the third set 25-22 and took the match 3-0. 

The Golden Wolves were led by Sipling with 13 kills, two aces and two blocks. Gaffney tallied 15 assists and McGinley tallied a team high 18 digs. 

The Golden Wolves are back in action on Thursday when they travel to Lancaster Bible College to take on the Chargers at 7:00 PM.
