Grantham, Pa (Oct. 15, 2022) - #10 Messiah University (11-2,6-0) downed Alvernia University (9-5,3-2) 4-0 in a MAC Commonwealth field hockey matchup Saturday afternoon at Messiah. 

Messiah struck first in the 13th minute when Carrie Bair flicked a shot and snuck it in the far post to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead. 

The Falcons made it 2-0 with just under four minutes left in the half when Madi Johnson received a pass from the corner and found Ashlyn Smith who found the back of the net. 

Messiah won a penalty corner in the last minute of the half and extended its lead to 3-0 when Smith assisted Mallory Kline to put the Falcons up three going into the half.

A scoreless third quarter saw both teams tallying five shots with Alvernia putting four on target to Messiah's three. Alvernia's Felicia Getz fired three shots, all of which were on target and Brooke Spezialetti and Kathryn Palmer both tallied shots in the third quarter. 

Messiah made it 4-0 with under three minutes left in the contest when Johnson found Lindsay McFeaters who found the back of the goal. 

The Golden Wolves were led by Getz with four shots, three on goal, Mackenzie Smeigh and Palmer both tallied two shots on target. 

Hannah Wolfe led Alvernia with five saves. 

Alvernia is back in action on Wednesday when they host Lebanon Valley at 7:00 PM.
