Alvernia and Eastern Play to 2-2 Draw

Cogill Nets Both of Alvernia's Goals

Reading, Pa. (Oct. 19, 2022) - Alvernia University (9-2-5, 3-1-2) played Eastern University (5-8-2, 2-3-1) to a 2-2 draw on Wednesday evening in MAC Commonwealth men's soccer action at Alvernia University.

Ryan Cogill netted both of Alvernia's goals, including an equalizer in the 83rd minute. With the tie, Alvernia moves to 9-2-5 overall and 3-1-2 in MAC Commonwealth play.

Alvernia started off the contest with two early shots, both by Cogill. His first attempt was saved while his second shot nearly slid inside the right post, but ricocheted off instead.

The Golden Wolves continued to pepper Eastern keeper Ty Bleiler, but he was able to keep the Golden Wolves off the board.

The Eagles did not get their first shot attempt until the 31st minute, but found success with it when Evan Cope deflected in a shot by Matthew Capuano.

Both teams fired in shots in the final 14 minutes of the half, but Evan Solley was able to keep the Eagles from tacking onto their lead while Bleiler kept Alvernia off the board.

Alvernia came out of the half fast, with Gabe Wunderlich sending an early shot in on goal that was saved.

In the 62nd minute, Cogill was fouled in the box and sent to the line for a penalty kick. Cogill sent his shot to the right and just out of the reach of Bleiler to even the game at 1-1.

The game did not stay tied long as Eastern answered just over two minutes. Eastern's Tommaso Garavaglia sent in a shot that Solley was able to jump up and get a hand on. But, Solley's save went right back at Cope, and Cope was able to find the back of the net to give Eastern back the lead.

The Golden Wolves equalized it with just over seven minutes to play when they were granted a corner that Nick Denlinger lined up to take. Denlinger sent the ball in and Bleiler dove back to try to clear it. He deflected the ball right at Cogill who was able to redirect it into net to even the game at 2-2.

Eastern had two late opportunities to score the game-winner, but Sollery was able to make the saves to preserve the tie.

Solley finished the night with seven saves.

Alvernia is back in action on Saturday with a road trip to the University of Rochester for a break in MAC Commonwealth play.
