Rochester, N.Y. (Oct. 22, 2022) - Alvernia University (10-2-5) scored three goals in the first half en route to a 3-2 victory over the University of Rochester (6-3-4) in non conference men's soccer action Saturday afternoon at Rochester. 

The win tallied Alvernia's tenth of the season to improve the Golden Wolves to 10-2-5 and secure back to back ten win seasons. 

Rochester got on the board early in the first half when Colin Canning found Kol Bassuk to give the Yellow Jackets a 1-0 lead in the first two minutes of the game. 

The Golden Wolves equalized just eight minutes later when Gabe Wunderlich whipped in a cross from the right side that found the foot of Justin Fetrow. Fetrow slotted it into the back of the net to make it 1-1. 

Alvernia made it a 2-1 game when Ryan Cogill sent a cross to the far post to Wunderlich. Wunderlich brought it back down, fended off a Rochester defender, and slotted it past the keep and into the back o f the net to put Alvernia up 3-1 with just over 15 minutes to play in the first half.

With a little over five minutes left in the first half Alvernia's Travis Slear ripped a shot that hit the woodwork and fell to Nick Denlinger. Denlinger then headed it into the back of the net to extend the Golden Wolves lead to 3-1 heading into halftime. 

Alvernia keeper Evan Solley made four saves in the first half. 

The Golden Wolves tallied eight shots in the first 45 minutes, bettering the Yellow Jackets by one. 

In the first ten minutes of the second half Rochester pulled one back when Ben Goldberg sent in a corner kick that was headed across the goal and past Solley by Tejan Borchers to cut the Alvernia lead to 3-2. 

Cogill threatened with 32 minutes left in the half after receiving a pass from Francisco Turcios-Ramos. Cogill made a move and ripped a shot into the bottom left corner that was saved by Rochester's Santino Lupica-Tondo to keep it a one goal game.

The Golden Wolves defense held strong in the final five minutes and fended off a few Rochester attacks en route to a 3-2 victory. 

Solley finished with five saves.

The Golden Wolves were led by Wunderlich with one goal and one assist, Fetrow and Denlinger each tallied a goal. Slear added an assist and two shots off the bench for Alvernia. 

Alvernia is back in action on Tuesday with a game at Widener to take on the Pride. Kickoff is set for 7:00 PM.
