Big First Half Powers Alvernia Past Clarks Summit, 6-0

Dougherty Ties Single-Game Assist Record

Clarks Summit, Pa. (Oct. 20, 2022) - Alvernia University (4-8-4) scored five first half goals en route to a 6-0 win over Clarks Summit University (4-7-3) in non-conference women's soccer action on Thursday evening at Clarks Summit University.

Alvernia put up five goals in the opening 24 minutes and tallied its last of the afternoon in the 75th minute. Haley Dougherty netted a goal and tied the single-game assist record with three assists. 

The Golden Wolves came out of the gate fast, with Dougherty firing a shot in in the opening minute, but Clarks Summit was able to keep the ball out of net to preserve the early 0-0 tie.

Alvernia broke through on its next shot on goal when Madison Rotkiske put in a shot on goal off a pass from Dougherty to put Alvernia on the board in the 6th minute.

Alvernia made two saves off the next kickoff to keep Clarks Summit off the board before Alvernia resumed its offensive pressure. The Golden Wolves put their second goal up in the 9th minute with Gabriella Fontana scoring on Dougherty's second assist of the afternoon.

After eight minutes without a shot on goal, Alvernia then scored two in three minutes with Macy McDonough netting an unassisted goal and Dougherty feeding her third assist on a goal by Abigail Sargent to give Alvernia the 4-0 lead in the 20th minute.

Heather Perna then continued the scoring frenzy in the 24th minute with an unassisted goal in the 24th minute.

Alvernia recorded two shots late in the first half, but both were saved to keep the game at 5-0 going into the half.

The Golden Wolves came out of the half firing four shots on goal in the opening three minutes, but Clarks Summit made four saves to keep Alvernia from extending the lead.

Alvernia continued to pepper shots in at net and broke through for its sixth goal of the game on a goal from Dougherty that was setup by Ordanoff. 

The Golden Wolves did not allow a shot the rest of the way while CSU kept Alvernia from adding to its lead.

Dougherty led the way for Alvernia with three assists and a goal. Brynn Bock, Katelyn Dreibelbis and Mikayla Giuliano split time in net for Alvernia in the win.

The Golden Wolves are back in action on Saturday at Widener.
