Chester, Pa. (Oct. 26, 2022) - Widener University (8-5-4, 4-2-1) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first half and never looked back as the Pride defeated Alvernia University (4-9-4, 1-4-2) 4-1 on Wednesday evening in MAC Commonwealth women's soccer action at Widener.

After two early shots by Alvernia were saved, it was the Pride who broke through first in the 18th minute on a goal by Melissa Koch.

Alvernia fired another shot in off the foot of Haley Dougherty, but it was again saved by the Pride.

The Pride then added onto its lead in the 36th minute on a goal by Kelly Barr.

Just under five minutes later, Widener netted its third of the evening on a goal by Hannah Berad. Alvernia did not get another shot off the rest of the half as the Pride took the 3-0 lead into the break.

Alvernia came out of the half firing, in a shot off the foot of Kalyn Keen in the 53 minute that went off the post. It did not take much longer for Alvernia to find the net with Keen connecting with Kaley Dougherty to put Alvernia on the board, 3-1, in the 55th minute.

Alvernia could not get another shot off the rest of the game, while the Pride added to their lead in the 90th minute with a goal by Madison Blackshire.

Brynn Bock finished the game with three saves.

With the loss, Alvernia is eliminated from the MAC Commonwealth playoff.

The Golden Wolves close out their 2022 campaign on Saturday against Stevenson.
