Game Recap: Women's Volleyball | | Nick Anderson (Athletic Communications Assistant)

Berks Downs Alvernia, 3-0

Reading, Pa (Oct. 3, 2022) - Penn State Berks University (7-6) defeated Alvernia University (7-7), 3-0, in non-conference women's volleyball action Monday night at Alvernia. 

Both teams traded points to open the first set before Penn State Berks went on a 11-6 run to take the lead at 18-13. 

Alvernia would get a few points back to cut the Berks to 19-17 with Allie Evangelista and Molly Gaffney tallying kills. 

Berks would close out the first set on a 6-4 run to take the first set 25-21. 

The second set started with Penn State Berks jumping out to a 11-5 lead before the Golden Wolves responded with five straight points to cut the deficit to 11-10. Juliana McGlone tallied two kills during the run and Evangelista served an ace. 

Berks would respond by extending its lead to 17-13 with Aubrey Hunt and Makenzie Shoop tallying two kills each. 

The Golden Wolves went on a 7-4 run at the end of the second set to cut the Berks lead to 23-21 before Penn State scored two points to take the second set 25-21. 

Alvernia opened the third set by jumping out to a 6-4 lead with Rachel Sipling and Lindsay Ferguson each tallying kills for Alvernia. 

Berks then went on a 6-2 run to take the lead at 10-8, but Alvernia responded with back to back points to tie the game at ten. 

Alvernia and Berks traded points back and forth before Berks took a 16-14 lead. The Golden Wolves responded with a 5-2 run that would put them up by one, 19-18. 

Both teams fought back and forth late in the third set before Penn State Berks closed out the set with a 3-1 run to take the set 27-25 and win the match 3-0. 

The Golden Wolves were led by Sipling with 15 kills and a team high three blocks. Abigail McGinley led Alvernia with 19 digs and Patricia Falar tallied 20 assists. 

Alvernia is back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Eastern to take on the Eagles at 7:00 PM.
