Eastern Sweeps Alvernia, 3-0

St. David's, Pa. (Oct. 5, 2022) - Eastern University (11-4, 4-0) defeated Alvernia University (7-8, 1-3) 3-0 in MAC Commonwealth women's volleyball action on Wednesday night at Eastern.

The Eagles led set one 8-3 early before Alvernia got within two, 10-8, on a service error by Eastern. A kill by Alvernia's Juliana McGlone kept Alvernia within two, 15-13, a few points later, but Eastern went on a quick 4-0 run to jump out to a 19-13 lead.

After a kill by Rachel Sipling brought Alvernia within four, 21-17, the Eagles scored three straight to get to set point, 24-17. Kills from Jamie Pierce and Sipling held off set point twice, but Eastern was able to seal the set with a kill by Hannah Pringle to go up 1-0 on the match.

Alvernia scored the first point of the second set on a kill by Sipling, but the Eagles controlled the rest of the set. Eastern led 11-8 later in the set before going onto an 8-3 run to go up 19-11. The Eagles then scored six of the next eight points to take the second set, 25-13.

The Golden Wolves jumped out to a 3-1 in the third set, but the Eagles quickly tied it up at 3-3. The back and forth continued for much of the third set, with the set even at 17-17 late. The Eagles then rattled off four straight to go up 21-17 on the set. Alvernia got back within two on back-to-back kills by McGlone. Alvernia could not get anything else going as Eastern scored the final four points to take the set 25-17 and the match 3-0.

Sipling finished with nine kills on 26 attacks and two aces to lead Alvernia.
