Golden Wolves Fall to Nazareth, 1-0

BOX SCORE Reading, Pa. (Nov. 18, 2022) - Alvernia University (3-3-1, 2-3-0) fell to Nazareth College (6-2-0, 5-0-0) 1-0, in UCHC men's ice hockey action Friday night at BodyZone.

A scoreless first period was highlighted by Nazareth tallying 18 shots on goal to Alvernia's two. Alvernia's Matthew Davies and Brendan McBride both fired shots on goal for the Golden Wolves in the first 20 minutes.

The Golden Flyers broke the 0-0 tie within the first two minutes of the second period when Michael DiSchiavi found Nicholas Charron, and Charron caught Alvernia's Brandon Daigle off guard and put the puck in the back of the net to give Nazareth a 1-0 lead.

The Golden Wolves would battle back and fire seven shots in the final ten minutes of the second period, but could not sneak one past the Nazareth goalie as the Golden Flyers went into the final intermission with a one goal lead.

Alvernia fired four shots in the first two minutes of the third period with three of them being saved by Nazareth's Raphael Provencher to preserve the 1-0 lead.

The Golden Wolves continued to apply pressure with Logan vande Meerakker, Hunter Alden and Davies all firing multiple shots in the next ten minutes, but Alvernia could not find the back of the net.

Alvernia tallied four shots in the final six minutes of action with vande Meerakker and McBride firing shots that were saved, and Max Cole firing one that was off target as the Golden Flyers preserved the shutout en route to a 1-0 win.

Daigle finished with 46 saves on the night. Daigle's 46 saves set a new Alvernia record for most saves in a game, breaking Colin Cain's record of 35 in the Golden Wolves' first game against Rivier.

The Golden Wolves are back in action tomorrow afternoon when they wrap up their weekend series with Nazareth, the game time is set for 3:00 PM.
