Golden Wolves Dominate Bears, 34-3

Reading, Pa. (Nov. 22, 2022) - Alvernia University won the final nine bouts against Ursinus College on Tuesday, as the Golden Wolves defeated Ursinus 34-3 in non-conference men's wrestling action at Alvernia.

Alvernia faced a 3-0 deficit early after Keito Shaw fell in a 7-2 decision in the 125 lb bout, but evened it up at 3-3 following a 4-0 decision at 133 lbs by Alvernia's Anthony Portillo.

The Golden Wolves then made it a 6-3 match with Avery Leonard taking a 6-4 decision over Ursinus' Romeo Rodriguez at 141 lbs. Alvernia kept it rolling the 149 lb bout with its third straight decision as Chance Babb edged out a 12-11 win over Ursinus' Dante Manaco to make it a 9-3 match.

Alvernia then picked up its first non-decision of the match with Robert Lawlor earning an 11- major decision at 157 lbs to give Alvernia the 13-3 lead.

The Golden Wolves then made it a 19-3 match with back-to-back decisions by Matthew Lackman and Gavin Hollingsworth. Lackman took his bout by a 6-0 decision, and Hollingsworth took his with a 12-5 decision.

A 6-2 decision by Isaac Kassis at 184 lbs put the match out of reach as Alvernia took a 22-3 lead.

Mauro Pellot-Vazquez then recorded Alvernia's first fall of the evening as Pellot-Vazquez pinned Ursinus' Connor Fristch in 2:35.

Palmer Rodenhaber capped off the night with a fall of his own, taking down Gavin Range in 1:42 to seal a 34-3 win over the Bears.

Alvernia is back in action on Friday, December 2nd at the Messiah Petrofes Invitational.
