Alvernia Competes at Gator Boot Duals

Nashville, Tenn. (Dec. 17, 2022) - #17 Alvernia University went 1-2 on Saturday at the Luther College Gator Boot Duals, hosted this year in Nashville, Tennessee.

The Golden Wolves opened their day with a dominating 50-6 win over Alma College. Alvernia then fell to #25 Luther College 24-9. Alvernia closed out the tournament with a 27-15 loss to #11 Baldwin Wallace.

Alvernia vs. Alma: Alvernia 50, Alma 6
Alvernia won nine of the ten bouts against the Scots. Keito Shaw, Avery Leonard, Chance Babb, Mauro Pellot-Vazquez, and Palmer Rodenhaber each recorded falls against the Scotts.

Alvernia vs. #25 Luther: Luther 24, Alvernia 9
Shaw started Alvernia off on the positive side with a 7-5 sudden victory at 125 lbs for the early 3-0 lead in favor of Alvernia. The Norse then won the next four bouts to overtake the Golden Wolves. A 6-0 decision by Matthew Lackman over Luther's Braeden Hendel got Alvernia back in the win column. But, Alvernia won just one of the final four bouts of the match, with Pellot-Vazquez grabbing a 9-5 decision for Alvernia at 197 lbs.

Baldwin Wallace jumped out to an early 18-0 lead with wins over Alvernia in the opening five bouts. A 1:35 pin by Lackman at 165 lbs got Alvernia on the board, but the Baldwin Wallace early lead would be too much to overcome for Alvernia. Isaac Kassis and Palmer Rodnehaber also recorded wins for Alverna in the match, including a fall in five minutes for Kassis, but Alvernia was unable to overcome the Yellow Jackets.
