Pioneers Take Down Golden Wolves, 4-0

Utica, N.Y. (Dec 3. 2022) - Utica University (8-1-1, 7-0-1) defeated Alvernia University (4-4-2, 3-3-0) 4-0, in UCHC women's ice hockey action Saturday afternoon at Utica. 

Golden Wolves goalie Julia Beaven tallied eight saves in the first 13 minutes of the first period to keep the game tied at 0-0. 

Utica's Hailey Modlin gave the Pioneers a 1-0 advantage with under seven minutes remaining in the first period thanks to assists from Courtney Staniszewski and Hannah Keating. 

Alvernia's Lexi Hooper and Jasmine Hughes tallied the only shots on goal for the Golden Wolves in the first period as Utica went into the first intermission with a 1-0 lead. 

The Pioneers made it 2-0 just under five minutes into the second period when Georgiana Santullo scored an unassisted goal to give Utica a two goal advantage. 

Utica extended its lead to 3-0 just 42 seconds into the third period when Carolyn Whitney found the back of the net after assists from Holly Silva and Abby Lillis. 

The Pioneers tallied one final goal seven minutes into the third period when Molly Pedone found the back of the net after assists from Ava Suda and Silva to ensure a 4-0 victory. 

Beaven tallied 45 saves in net for the Golden Wolves. 

Alvernia was led by Olivia Gilida, Sydney Bradley and Abby Reisinger all with three shots on goal, Kathryn Palmer tallied two shots on target. 

The Golden Wolves are back in action on January 2nd when they travel to Morrisville State College to take on the Mustangs at 1:00 PM.
