Nazareth Completes Sweep Over Alvernia with 6-1 Win

Wyomissing, Pa. (Feb. 12, 2022)- Alvernia University (9-12-1, 7-9-1) lost its second matchup against Nazareth College (22-1, 18-0) 6-1 Saturday afternoon in a UCHC women's ice hockey matchup at the Body Zone Complex.

Alvernia's defense started strong, facing six shots in the first five minutes without allowing a goal. Nazareth's defense also had a strong defense start, limiting the Golden Wolves' offense. Lexi Hooper fired off a shot with 9:40 left in the first period, but the shot was saved by Nazareth's goalie.

As the opening stanza progressed, Nazareth's offense continued to test Julia Beaven and the Golden Wolves' defense. The Golden Flyers' offense would not be denied though, as with 2:48 left in the period, Nazareth slipped a shot past Beaven, giving them a one-goal lead. The first period ended with Nazareth on top, 1-0.

The Golden Flyers grew their lead early in the second, tallying a goal with 16:35 left to play in the period. Nazareth recorded two more goals over the next eight minutes, pushing its lead to four.

Alvernia's offense was able to respond, with Abby Reisinger netting a breakaway goal, slipping it past the goalie's outstretched arm with 6:40 left in the period. Despite a few more late-period attempts by the Golden Wolves, Nazareth took a 4-1 lead into the third period.

The third period started fast, with Nazareth recording a goal in the first 65 seconds. The Golden Flyers grew their lead later in the period, making the score 6-1. Despite Alvernia's late efforts, Nazareth would take a 6-1 win over the Golden Wolves.

Beaven recorded 68 saves during the contest on 74 shots faced.

The Golden Wolves return to action Friday as they go on the road to match up against King's College to open the final series of the regular season.
