Ashland, Va. (Feb. 26, 2022) - Alvernia University (2-2) recorded five runs in the sixth inning of game two to overtake Randolph-Macon College (4-1) and secure a series split against the Yellow Jackets on Saturday afternoon in a non-conference doubleheader at Randolph Macon.

Alvernia fell to R-MC 4-0 in game one, but overcame a three run deficit in game two with a five-run sixth inning to take the 9-7 game two win. 

In game one of the doubleheader, R-MC opened the game with a two-run bottom of the first and added one run in both the bottom of the second and bottom of the third to take 4-0 lead. 

Alvernia stranded runners in the first four innings, but couldn't get anyone on to threaten the Yellow Jacket lead in the final three innings as Macon came away with the 4-0 lead. 

In game two of the afternoon, R-MC again took a 2-0 lead after the first inning, but this time Alvernia responded in the top of the second.

Alvernia got its run back in the top of the second with Mike Ramundo scoring on a passed ball. Alvernia then evened it up at 2-2 with Billy Coleman driving in Thomas Faggioni on a sacrifice fly to center. The Golden Wolves then took a 3-2 lead on an RBI single to left field by Luca Grammatica to drive in Billy Dougar.

The Golden Wolves added one to its lead in the top of the fourth on a squeeze by Zach Rogacki to score Brandon Smith.

R-MC retook the lead in the bottom of the fourth, scoring four runs on four hits to go up 6-4 on the Golden Wolves. The Yellow Jackets then added another run in the bottom of the fifth to make it a 7-4 game going into the sixth.

Alvernia scored its first two of the sixth inning on a throwing error by the Yellow Jackets during the at-bat of Justin Ayala to allow Coleman and Grammatica to score. A groundout by Lucas Flloyd in the next at-bat allowed Zach Rogacki to score and even the game up at 7-7. The Golden Wolves added two more to cap off the inning with Faggioni doubling down the line to bring in Ramundo and Ayala and give Alvernia the 9-7 lead. 

Alvernia did not allow a hit the rest of the inning as Alvernia took the 9-7 win.

Faggioni led Alvernia with two hits, one run, and two RBIs. 

Josh Kreider picked up the win in one and two-thirds inning of relief work, and Christian Burrus got the two inning save. 

Alvernia returns to action on Wednesday at Stockton.
