Golden Wolves, Osprey Play to 6-6 Tie

Game Called for Darkness Before Heading to Extras

Stockton, NJ (March 2, 2022) - Alvernia University's (2-2-1) comeback attempt over Stockton University (2-0-1) was cut short by darkness as the Golden Wolves and Osprey played to a 6-6 draw on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference baseball action at Stockton.

Trailing Stockton 6-2 in the sixth inning, Alvernia put up four in the seventh to even things up at 6-6. Neither team was able to get a base runner in scoring position in the final two innings before the game was called for darkness before heading to extras.

Alvernia took an early 1-0 advantage in the top of the first with Zach Rogacki, who reached on a walk, coming around to score on a groundout by Nick Nutile

The Golden Wolves held their 1-0 advantage until the Osprey scored four runs on five hits in the bottom of the fifth to take a 4-1 advantage over Alvernia.

Alvernia got one back in its half of the sixth with Thomas Faggioni homering to left field to make it a 4-2 game in favor of Stockton.

Stockton responded in the bottom of the sixth with two runners scoring on a fielding error off a bunt by the Osprey to retake a four-run lead, 6-2.

Alvernia's bats then came alive in the top of the seventh to even it up at 6-6. A bases-loaded walk on Faggioni's at-bat brought in Luca Grammatica, and Evan Thomas then drove in Mike Ramundo and Nick Nutile on a single through the left gap. Alvernia then scored again on a bases-loaded walk, this time during the at-bat of Joe Ginder, to even the game up at 6-6. Alvernia batted around to Grammatica for the second time during the inning, but Stockton forced a fly-out to end the threat.

Neither team could get anything going in the final two and a half innings before the game was halted in a 6-6 tie after the bottom of the ninth.

Faggioni and Thomas ended with two RBIs a piece and Faggioni also added two hits. Mike Ramundo finished with two hits and one run scored.

Alvernia returns to action on Sunday in Fort Myers, Florida in its opening game of spring break - a noon contest against Muskingham.
