Golden Wolves Split at Misericordia Tri-Match

Dallas, Pa. (Feb 26, 2022)- Alvernia University (7-5, 2-1) recorded a 3-0 win over Misericordia (8-10, 0-3) 3-0 and dropped a game against NJCU (9-4) 3-2 in the Misericordia Tri-Match as men's volleyball traveled on the road to play at Misericordia.
 
The Golden Wolves kicked off the day with a match against Misericordia. Alvernia started fast, with Nick Cummins and Tyler Anderson helping lead an early 6-3 run. As the set progressed, the Cougars fought back, using an 8-2 run to take a three-point lead.
 
As the set progressed, both sides fought to try and take a firm lead. Alvernia, led by Cummins, took advantage of a few mistakes by the Cougars and went on a 7-1 run late in the set. Despite a late effort from Misericordia, the Golden Wolves secured a 25-22 win.
 
The second set started back and forth, with neither team gaining momentum. Anderson led a 4-1 run partway through the set to give the Golden Wolves a slim 13-11 lead.
 
As the set progressed, both teams went on small runs, with the lead never growing by more than three for Alvernia. However, late in the second set, the Golden Wolves found a way to push past the Cougars. Christian Mosley and Cummins led Alvernia on a 6-2 run to close out the set, giving the second set to the Golden Wolves, 25-20.
 
The third set started slow, with both teams fighting hard for points. Alvernia used a small 4-1 run to take an 8-6 lead over Misericordia early in the set. The Golden Wolves continued to push, battling past the Cougars' stout defense.
 
Ian Rauh and Anderson helped lead the charge late in the third stanza, kicking off a 6-1 run, which gave Alvernia a 22-16 lead. Despite a late push from the Cougars, the Golden Wolves secured a 25-21 win in the third set and a 3-0 win in the match.
 
Anderson led the Golden Wolves in the first contest, securing 14 kills and five digs. Cummins ended the match with nine kills and eight digs, while Mosley tallied eight digs and four kills.
 
The second contest saw the Golden Wolves start strong, with Anderson and Cummins leading an 8-4 run. As the set progressed, Alvernia stayed in control, using a 4-0 run to take a six-point lead.
 
The Golden Wolves' offense continued to click, with Brady Correll and Mosley each recording a kill. Alvernia ended the first set with a 25-18 victory over NJCU.
 
The second stanza started fast, with both teams tied at six early in the set. Cummins and Anderson once again took charge, sparking a quick 3-0 run over the Knights. Alvernia kept up the pressure, holding a 14-11 lead over the Knights halfway through the set.
 
NJCU showed resiliency, going on a 5-1 run and taking a slim one-point lead.
 
The Golden Wolves battled back late, taking their own one-point lead and bringing the score to 19-18. Despite the effort, the Knights' offense proved to be too much, as NJCU ended the set on a 7-2 run to take a 25-21 win.
 
The Knights kicked off the third set, jumping out on an 8-4 run early. The Golden Wolves did not wait long to respond, with Anderson, Mosley, and Cummins racking up a total of three kills and a service ace on a 4-0 run.
 
NJCU fought hard and claimed a four-point lead late over Alvernia 19-15. The Golden Wolves kept fighting as Brian Rea and Cummins led a late comeback. The Golden Wolves closed out the third set on a 10-4 run, claiming the third stanza 25-23.
 
The fourth set was an even affair, with the match tied at seven apiece. A 4-1 run by Alvernia gave the Golden Wolves a slim three-point lead before a Knights 5-1 run gave NJCU its own one-point lead.
 
The Golden Wolves kept battling throughout the set, but the Knight's offense proved to be overpowering. NJCU closed out the fourth stanza on a 6-1 run, claiming the set 25-23.
 
NJCU kicked off the fifth set, going on an early 3-1 run. As the set progressed, Rauh and Mosley helped keep things close, with the scoring reading 7-6 in favor of the Knights.
 
Despite the strong effort by Alvernia, NJCU proved to be too much. The Knights ended the contest on an 8-2 run. This run gave allowed NJCU to secure the set 15-8, and the contest 3-2.
 
Anderson led the Golden Wolves in the second match, tallying 17 kills and 11 digs. Cummins was not far behind, recording 16 kills and six digs. Mosley ended the contest with 12 kills and three block assists.
 
The Golden Wolves return to action Wednesday, as they host Stevenson in a MAC matchup at Alvernia.
