Golden Wolves Split at TCNJ

Ewing, NJ (Feb. 4, 2022) - Alvernia University (15-4) picked up a 39-6 win over Elizabethtown College, but dropped a 28-6 decision to TCNJ on Friday evening in the TCNJ men's wrestling tri-match in Ewing, New Jersey.

The Golden Wolves started their showing with a handed 39-6 win over Elizabethtown, winning nine of the ten bouts. But, Alvernia could not complete the Friday night sweep as the host Lions came away with a 28-6 win over Alvernia in the second match of the night.

In the Elizabethtown match, Alvernia's Keito Shaw got things started with a 17-4 major decision to put Alvernia up 4-0 early. Kyle Seibert followed Shaw at 133 with a 10-1 major decision of his own to double-up Alvernia lead, 8-0.

Quinn Tobin then recorded Alvernia's first technical fall of the night with a 17-0 win over Zach Rupp for the 13-0 Alvernia advantage. In the 149 bout, Elizabethtown picked up its only points of the night with a pin on Jason Rezac.

The Golden Wolves bounced right back with Robert Lawlor taking a 10-5 decision over Gunner Gehr at 157. At 165, Matthew Lackman picked up Alvernia's first fall of the night with a 2:34 pin to make the match 22-6 in favor of the Golden Wolves.

After a 12-5 decision for Gavin Hollingsworth at 174, Mauro Pellot secured a 17-0 technical fall at 184 to put Alvernia up 30-6 with two bouts to go.

Tonee Ellis picked up a close 11-10 decision at 197 in the penultimate bout of the match, and Palmer Rodenhaber sealed the win at heavyweight with a 1:48 pin over Kurt Driscoll for the 39-6 Alvernia win.

In their second match of the afternoon, the Golden Wolves held TCNJ to only one technical fall and no pins, but Alvernia was only able to pick up two wins of its own.

Lackman picked up a close 4-0 decision at 165 for Alvernia's first three points of the match, and Rodenhaber closed out the match with a narrow 3-2 decision at heavyweight as TCNJ came away with the 28-6 win.

The Golden Wolves return to action on Friday with a home dual against Delaware Valley.
