Ft. Myers, FL. (Mar. 11, 2022)- Alvernia University (4-8-1) was held scoreless in a 1-0 loss against Bluffton University (3-6) in a non-conference baseball matchup Friday afternoon in Fort Myers, Florida.

The Golden Wolves started fast, with
Joe Ginder and
Thomas Faggioni getting on base in the bottom of the first. Despite the early opportunity, Alvernia was unable to capitalize, leaving two runners stranded and ending the first inning scoreless.

Alvernia continued to push, getting three more runners on base over the next two innings. The Beavers were able to hold off the Golden Wolves, keeping them from crossing home plate. Alvernia's defense held firm as well, keeping Bluffton in check and not allowing a run in the first four innings.

The Golden Wolves recorded three hits in the fifth inning, with
Luca Grammatica,
Lucas Floyd, and Ginder getting on base. Alvernia was held in check despite the opportunities, leaving two runners stranded and ending the fifth set even, 0-0.

The tie was not broken until the top of the eighth inning when the Beavers utilized a sacrifice fly and drove in a runner to take a slim 1-0 lead. The Golden Wolves were unable to tie the contest up in the eighth inning.

In the ninth inning, the Golden Wolves' offense got a runner on base, with
Jason Kelly getting hit by a pitch and advancing to first. Kelly was able to advance to second base before the Beaver's defense stepped up. Alvernia ended the game scoreless, with Bluffton claiming the contest, 1-0.

The Golden Wolves return to action Tuesday as they host Kean University in the Alvernia home opener.
