Immaculata, Pa. (March 16, 2022)- Alvernia University (4-9-1) dropped its contest against Immaculata University (6-4) 7-3 Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference baseball matchup at Immaculata.
The Mighty Macs kicked off the contest, scoring four runs in three hits in the bottom of the first inning to take a quick 4-0 lead. In the first three innings, Immaculata's defense kept Alvernia in check, not allowing a hit.
The Mighty Macs grew their lead in the bottom of the third inning, adding on two more runs and pushing the Golden Wolves deficit to six. The Golden Wolves got on the board in the top of the fourth, with
Brandon Smith recording a double that drove in
Thomas Faggioni. Alvernia left two runners stranded during the Inning.
The next score of the contest did not come until the top of the sixth, with the Golden Wolves driving in
Nick Nutile to make it a 6-2 game. Alvernia did not stop here, with Nutile recording another run just an inning later. Alvernia ended the top of the seventh inning with a score of 6-3.
The Golden Wolves held the Mighty Macs scoreless in the seventh inning, entering the eighth inning with a three-point deficit. Immaculata fended off Alvernia in the eighth before adding an insurance run in the bottom of the inning. The Golden Wolves were unable to secure a run in the top of the ninth inning, falling to Immaculata 7-3.
Smith paced the Golden Wolves during the contest, recording two hits and one RBI on the day.
The Golden Wolves return to action Thursday for their home opener against Ursinus.
