Farmingdale, N.Y. (March 26, 2022) - Alvernia University (1-6) was defeated on the road 22-3 as the Golden Wolves traveled to Farmingdale State (6-1) to matchup in a non-conference men's lacrosse matchup Saturday afternoon.
The Golden Wolves kicked off the contest with a goal from
Sawyer Smith, with
Dylan Mercadante recording the assist. The Rams responded a minute later, slipping a shot past the goalie and drawing the contest even, 1-1.
Farmingdale kept up the pressure the rest of the quarter, ending the first quarter on top 7-1.
In the second quarter, Farmingdale continued to grow its lead, recording two goals in the first five minutes of the stanza and making it a 9-1 game.
Cade Campbell responded for the Golden Wolves, finding the back of the net off an assist from
Sean Goldsmith. The Rams added six more goals onto their lead in the second quarter, taking a 15-2 lead into the half.
Farmingdale held Alvernia scoreless in the third quarter while adding six goals to its lead to claim a 21-2 advantage heading into the fourth quarter.
The fourth stanza was held scoreless before the Rams added to their lead with 4:23 left in the contest. Campbell recorded his second goal of the contest off a pass from
Louis Ferrara with 3:27 remaining in the matchup.
The Rams ended the contest on top of the Golden Wolves, 22-3.
Dane Sabarese ended the contest with four saves, while
Jared Devine tallied nine saves in net.
Alvernia returns to action Wednesday as they host York in its MAC season opener.
