Baseball Drops 8-2 Decision to Elizabethtown

Reading, Pa. (March 30, 2022) - Elizabethtown College (10-12) held Alvernia University (7-14-1) to just two runs as the Blue Jays put up eight on the Golden Wolves in a 8-2 win in non-conference baseball action at Alvernia on Wednesday afternoon.

The Blue Jays led 4-0 going into the bottom of the fifth, but Alvernia was able to get two back in its half of fifth to threaten Elizabethtown at 4-2. However, the threat did not last long as Elizabethtown put up four in the top of the sixth. The Golden Wolves did not get on the board the rest of the way as Elizabethtown took the 8-2 win.

Elizabethtown got on the board to open the scoring in the top of the third on a single up the middle and doubled its lead to 2-0 in the top of the fourth on a double to left field.

The Blue Jays kept things rolling with a two-run fifth to go up 4-0 before Alvernia was able to get on the board.

Alvernia's first run of the game came off the bat of Zach Rogacki as he drove in Justin Ayala on a single up the middle. Rogacki then came around to score on a groundout by Nick Nutile to make it a 4-2 game.

Elizabethtown slowed Alvernia's threat in the top of the sixth as the Blue Jays plated four runs on three hits and three errors to go up 8-2 on the Golden Wolves.

Alvernia got just one hit the rest of the way - a single by Grant Hackett in the bottom of the ninth - as Elizabethtown came away with the 8-2 win.

Rogacki and Nutile led Alvernia with two hits each and were each responsible for one RBIs.

Elizabethtown's Eric Sipling picked up the win on the mound for the Blue Jays.

The Golden Wolves return to action on Friday at Albright.
