Offense Continues to Roll for Series Sweep over Lions

Reading, Pa. (April 1, 2022) - Alvernia University (8-14-1, 2-0) kept its hot hand going against Albright College (1-18, 0-2) defeating the Lions 20-2 on Friday night to secure the series sweep in MAC Commonwealth baseball action at Albright.

Coming off a 25-9 win over the Lions to start the series on Tuesday, the Golden Wolves kept things rolling across town at Albright on Friday. The Golden Wolves posted 20 runs on 21 hits on Friday. Across the six meetings against its crosstown rival since the start of last season, Alvernia has outscored the Lions 125-38.

Alvernia wasted no time picking up where it left off on Tuesday, putting up six runs in the first frame.

Zach Rogacki crossed the plate for the first run of the inning after scoring during an error on Thomas Faggioni's at-bat. Nick Nutile then scored the next run of the inning on a single up the middle by Brandon Smith. Faggioni then came around to score on an error. Mike Ramundo drove in two runs on a double to left field to put Alvernia up 5-0, and a single by Luca Grammatica capped off the inning to bring in Ramundo for the 6-0 lead.

Alvernia added three to its lead in the top of third with Kyler Newton driving in two on a two-run homer. Grammatica added the third of the inning with his second single of the night to drive in Ramundo for the second time and give Alvernia the 9-0 lead.

The Golden Wolves put up another six-spot in the bottom of the sixth to extend its lead to 15-0. The inning was highlighted by a two-run double by Thomas Faggioni and a two-run single by Brandon Smith.

The Lions put one on the board in the bottom of the fifth to end the shutout bid, but Alvernia tacked on four to its lead in the top of the sixth. Grammatica, Rogacki, Nick Nutile, and Faggioni each recorded RBIs during the inning as Alvernia went up 19-1.

Albright added its final run in the bottom of the eighth, but Alvernia had the final say of the game as Josh Gilkey doubled to drive in Ramundo for the 20-2 final.

Ramundo led Alvernia's offense going 5-for-6 at the plate with five runs scored and two RBIs. Jack Cossa picked up the win on the mound going eight innings and striking out three.

The Golden Wolves return to action tomorrow with a MAC Commonwealth doubleheader at Stevenson.
