Chester, Pa. (April 20, 2022)- Widener University (6-6, 4-1) used 12 first-half goals to defeat Alvernia University (1-13, 0-6) 22-2 in a MAC Commonwealth men's lacrosse matchup Wednesday night at Widener.

The Pride opened the scoring early, finding the back of the net with 12:27 remaining in the opening stanza. Widener extended its lead minutes later, taking a 2-0 lead with 8:13 left in the quarter. The Pride recorded two more goals in the quarter, leading 4-0 at the end of the opening frame.

The Pride carried their momentum into the second stanza, adding seven to their lead in the first six minutes of the quarter. The Golden Wolves snapped the drought late in the quarter, with
Dylan Mercadante slipping a shot past the goalie to make it an 11-1 game. The Pride responded minutes later, adding to their lead with 19 seconds left in the first half. Widener ended the first half on top of Alvernia, 12-1.

Widener held Alvernia scoreless in the third quarter while adding four to its lead, taking a 16-1 lead into the fourth quarter.

The Pride opened the scoring with four quick goals in the first five minutes to take a 20-1 lead.
Ryan Gilman answered, recording the second goal of the night for the Golden Wolves with 6:40 left in the contest. Widener added two more onto its lead before the game was over, finishing the contest on top of Alvernia, 22-2.

Jared Devine got the start in net, recording 16 saves on the evening.
Dane Sabarese also saw time in goal, making two saves in the final 15 minutes of the game.

The Golden Wolves have a weekend bye and return to action Wednesday when they host crosstown rival Albright College.
