Reading, Pa. (April 27, 2022)- Alvernia University (1-14, 0-7) lost its matchup against Albright College (5-10, 1-6) 9-6 Wednesday night in a MAC Commonwealth men's lacrosse contest at Alvernia.

Alvernia opened the day honoring its two seniors,
Haydon Lyon and
Keith Lake. Both were named captains before the season started and have been team leaders for a young squad.

The Golden Wolves kicked off the contest with a quick goal from Lake, who slipped a shot past the goalie off an assist from
Colin McFadyen with 12:45 remaining in the opening stanza. Alvernia capitalized on the momentum minutes later, with
Dylan Mercadante netting a goal to make it a 2-0 Golden Wolves lead.

The Golden Wolves' defense had a strong start to the day, holding the Lions in check through most of the first quarter. Albright's offense kept applying pressure, finally netting a goal with 3:17 left in the stanza. The Golden Wolves ended the first quarter on top of the Lions, 2-1.

Albright opened the second quarter with a goal, tying the contest up 2-2, with 13:41 remaining in the first half. As the quarter progressed, both sides fought back and forth to gain the lead. The Lions finally broke the tie midway through the second quarter, taking a 3-2 advantage with 6:03 left in the stanza.

The Golden Wolves quickly responded, with Mercadante netting his second goal of the game, drawing the contest even, 3-3. As the quarter came to a close, the Lions jumped back out in front, recording a goal with 29 seconds left in the first half. Albright took a 4-3 lead into the half.

The Lions extended their lead to open the third quarter, recording a goal in the first two minutes of the second half. As the quarter progressed, both offenses were kept quiet as neither team could find the back of the net.

The Golden Wolves ended the scoring drought midway through the quarter, with Lake recording his second goal of the contest off an assist from
Louis Ferrara. This goal came with 6:49 remaining in the quarter, making it a 5-4 contest. Alvernia did not need to wait long for its next goal, as Lake netted his third goal of the contest off an assist from
Cade Campbell to bring the contest even, 5-5.

Albright quickly responded to the Golden Wolves' push, regaining the lead with 3:27 left in the third stanza. The Lions added two more goals to their lead before the quarter ended, taking an 8-5 lead into the fourth quarter.

Albright added a goal to its lead partway through the fourth, making it a 9-5 game with 10:03 left in the contest. The Golden Wolves recorded a late goal, with Ferrara finding the back of the net with 2:39 remaining. Despite the effort, the Golden Wolves dropped the contest to the Lions, 9-6.

Lake ended his senior day with three goals, which led the Golden Wolves on the day.
Dane Sabarese got the start in net for Alvernia, making 16 saves throughout the game.

The Golden Wolves return to action Saturday as they take on Lebanon Valley College in their season finale.
