Reinert Records 200th Career Hit, Alvernia Splits with Lebanon Valley

Reading, Pa. (April 20, 2022) - Sarah Reinert recorded her 200th career hit as Alvernia University (11-13, 4-6) split a MAC Commonwealth softball doubleheader with Lebanon Valley College (17-8, 8-4) on Wednesday afternoon at Alvernia's Angelica Park.

The Dutchmen took game one, 6-1, before Alvernia came scoring back in game two. The Golden Wolves put up ten runs in the first inning en route to an 11-0 victory in game two. Reinert became just the second Alvernia Softball student-athlete to reach 200 career hits with her second hit in game two.

In game one of the afternoon, the Dutchmen took a 3-0 lead after the first inning. After Lebanon Valley put two one with one out, the Golden Wolves recorded the second out of the inning on a foul out. Alvernia then appeared to force a pop up to first, but the fly ball, which would have been the third out, was dropped. It allowed one run to score on the play, and Lebanon Valley scored two more on the next at bat for a 3-0 lead.

Lebanon Valley extended it to a 4-0 lead in the top of the third, but Alvernia got one back in the bottom of the fourth with Devan Hudson driving in Allison Kirschner on a single up the middle.

Alvernia would be held to just that one run while Lebanon Valley added two more for a 6-1 win.

Tara Tumasz went 2-for-2 to lead Alvernia's offense in game one. Reinert recorded career hit #198 on a double down the right field line.

Much like it has the last few games, Alvernia's offense sprung to life in game two. The Golden Wolves put up ten runs on just four hits to open the first inning. Reinert led off the game with hit #199, a single up the middle, to get things rolling for Alvernia.

The Golden Wolves would bat around, sending 14 batters to the plate during the inning. Reinert, Burkhardt and Kirschner each recorded a hit during the inning, with Reinert recording two. Her second hit of the inning, a single up the middle, marked her 200th career hit.

Tumasz, Payton Lascala, and Kersting Koenig each reached on bases-loaded walks to add three runs for Alvernia. Hudson reached on a bases-loaded hit by pitch for another run for the Golden Wolves.

Kirschner's single up the middle in the 13th at-bat of the inning capped off Alvernia's scoring in the first. Kirschner drove in Julie Burkhardt and Jaclyn Barbera for Alvernia's ninth and tenth runs of the inning.

Alvernia added on to its lead in the bottom of the second with Kerstin Koenig driving in Hudson, who reached on a double to the left gap, on an infield sacrifice hit to give Alvernia the 11-0 lead.

The Dutchmen threatened the shutout in the top of the fifth, putting a runner on second after a lead off double to center. Alvernia retired the next two on strikeouts by Maggie Loomis and sealed the game on a groundout to second base for the final out.

Loomis matched her career-high of seven strikeouts in five innings of work and allowed a career-low two hits.

On the offensive side of the ball, Reinert and Kirschner each finished with two hits and two RBIs. Kerstin Koenig also recorded two RBIs.

The Golden Wolves are back in action on Saturday, hosting Eastern University in a MAC Commonwealth doubleheader.
