Reinert Breaks All-Time Hits Record, Alvernia Splits with Lycoming

Reading, Pa. (April 24, 2022) - Alvernia University (12-16) split its Sunday series with Lycoming College (8-22) and Sarah Reinert became the Alvernia all-time hits leader in game two on Sunday afternoon in non-conference softball action at Alvernia.

Sarah Reinert tied the record at 202 with a double to lead off Alvernia in game two. She then recorded her 203rd career hit with a single through the right side in her second at-bat of game two. Reinert surpassed Miranda Peto '13, who recorded 202 hits in 170 games during her career.

Reinert reached the milestone in 156 career games. She was an All-American and MAC Commonwealth Player of the Year in 2021 and was named a NFCA Top-50 Player to Watch earlier this season.

Alvernia took game one by a 3-2 decision before dropping game two 10-9 after Lycoming College completed a come-from-behind win.

In game one of the afternoon, Alvernia fell behind 2-0 after the top of the third, but got one back in the bottom half of the inning. Reinert doubled to left field in the second at-bat of the inning and stole third during the next at-bat. On a Maggie Loomis sacrifice fly to shallow left field, Reinert took off on the tag. The throw appeared to beat her, but the catcher dropped the ball as Reinert scrambled back to tag home.

Alvernia trailed 2-1 until the bottom of the fifth. Reinert reached on a fielding error and stole second to get into scoring position. Jaclyn Barbera drove in Reinert to even the game up at 2-2 on a double to left field. Megan Poley then scored on an error during Allison Kirschner's at-bat to give Alvernia the 3-2 lead.

The Golden Wolves held Lycoming to one hit the rest of the way as Alvernia took the 3-2 win.

Maggie Loomis picked up the win in the circle for Alvernia with the complete game showing.

Barbera led Alvernia with two hits and one RBI.

In game two of the afternoon, Reinert got things started with a leadoff double in the bottom of the first for career hit 202. Reinert then scored on an infield single by Payton Lascalla, and Barbera scored Alvernia's second run of the inning on a double by Hope Robinson.

Alvernia extended its lead to 5-0 in the bottom of the second. With two on and two out, Barbera drove a three-run homer over the right center fence to give Alvernia the 5-0 advantage.

Lycoming got one back in the top of the third, but Alvernia tacked on four to its lead in the bottom of the third frame. Emma Kropkowski tripled to right field to bring in Robinson. Reinert then recorded her record-breaking hit to bring in Kropkowski on a single through the right side. Two more runs then scored on an error during Tara Tumasz's at-bat to give Alvernia the 9-1 lead.

Lycoming got four back in the top of the fourth and added another run in the top of the fifth to get back within three, 9-6. The Warriors didn't stop there as they added four more in the top of the seventh to take the lead. The Warriors took the lead on a two-run homer to go up 10-9.

Alvernia did not get a runner on in the bottom of the seventh as Lycoming took the 10-9 win.

Reinert, Barbera, and Robinson each finished with two hits, and Barbera finished with three RBIs.

Alvernia is back in action on Wednesday at Albright.
