Reading, Pa. (April 9, 2022) - Alvernia University (3-4,1-3) nearly took its first ever win against Messiah University (6-8, 3-0), but the Falcons were able to edge Alvernia 5-4 on Saturday at Alvernia in MAC Commonwealth Men's Tennis action. 

Alvernia was poised to come away with the win over the Falcons after going up 2-1 in doubles action with the duos of Lucas Berger and Jayden Lewis, and Drew Heinzelmann and Thomas Figurelli picking up wins for Alvernia.

Alvernia picked up wins at #3 and #4 singles, including a narrow three-set win by Heinzelmann at #3 singles.

With the match locked at 4-4 with only #6 singles remaining, the match came down to a three-set thriller between Messiah and Figurelli. Messiah was able to edge Figurelli at #6 singles as Messiah picked up the matvh-winning point for the 5-4 win over Alvernia. 

Alvernia is back in action on Wednesday at Eastern.
