Eight Golden Wolves Score as Alvernia Downs Wilkes 10-0

Reading, Pa (Sept. 10, 2022) - Alvernia University (3-1) cruised to a 10-0 victory over Wilkes University (1-3) in non- conference field hockey action Saturday afternoon at Alvernia. 

After leading 4-0 at the half, Alvernia exploded for five goals in the third quarter on its way to a 10-0 win. 

The Golden Wolves fired off 14 shots in the first quarter before Kathryn Palmer opened up the scoring with just a minute left in the quarter, putting Alvernia up 1-0. 

The Golden Wolves struck again when Abbie Buck inserted the ball on a penalty corner to Felica Getz who fired it into the goal to give Alvernia a 2-0 lead with 13 minutes left in the half. 

Just under three minutes later, Alvernia's Hailey Miller scored a solo goal to extend the Golden Wolves lead to 3-0. 

The Golden Wolves struck again when Olivia Gehris scored with an assist from Alyssa Krady in the final minute of the first half. This extended Alvernia's lead to 4-0 heading into halftime. 

Alvernia would come out firing in the third quarter when Alyssa Krady found Madison Speece to extend the Alvernia lead to five. 

Just over 30 seconds later Miller scored her second goal of the day thanks to an assist from Getz, pushing the Golden Wolves lead 6-0. 

With five minutes left in the third quarter Makenzie Smeigh added her name to the score sheet as she scored an unassisted goal to make it 7-0. 

Shortly after Smeigh's goal, Gehris tallied her second goal of the afternoon thanks to an assist from Rori Caulfield, as Alvernia's lead stretched to 8-0. 

Abbie Buck got on the score sheet after she fired a shot on a pass from Getz to make the Alvernia lead 9-0. The assist was the second of the game for Getz. 

Makayla Gingrich capped off the scoring for the Golden Wolves with a solo goal with 11 minutes to go in the contest to make the score 10-0. 

The Golden Wolves were led by Hailey Miller and Olivia Gehris who both scored two goals. Felicia Getz and Alyssa Krady both tallied two assists for Alvernia. 

Lexi Boettcher got the shutout win in goal for the Golden Wolves. 

Alvernia is back in action on Wednesday when the Golden Wolves host Moravian at 7:00 PM.
