Strong Second Half Lifts Alvernia Past Moravian, 3-1

Reading, Pa (September 14, 2022) - Olivia Hess scored twice as Alvernia University (4-1) took down Moravian University (2-3) 3-1 in non-conference field hockey action Wednesday night at Alvernia.

The Golden Wolves scored two second half goals to break the 1-1 tie en route to the victory.

A scoreless first quarter was highlighted by Alvernia outshooting Moravian 5-1 with three of the shots coming off the stick of Felicia Getz

The Golden Wolves opened the scoring up when Hess found the back of the goal just under three minutes into the second quarter to give Alvernia the 1-0 lead.

The Greyhounds responded quickly when Maddie Call assisted Sydney Anderson to tie the game at 1-1 in the 22nd minute of play.

The Golden Wolves took the lead when Abbie Buck inserted the ball off of a corner to Getz who fired a shot past the Moravian goalie to put Alvernia up 2-1.

Alvernia added another goal two minutes later when Olivia Gehris found Hess who tallied her second goal of the contest after she slipped her shot past the goalie to extend the Alvernia lead to two, 3-1, heading into the fourth quarter.

The Alvernia defense held strong in the fourth as they held the Greyhounds to just one shot in the final quarter to seal the 3-1 victory.

Lexi Boettcher got the win in goal for the Golden Wolves. Boettcher saved three of the four shots on goal that she faced.

The Golden Wolves were led by Hess who tallied two goals and Gehris added another. Getz led Alvernia with six shots and added an assist.

Alvernia is back in action on Saturday when the Golden Wolves travel to Eastern to open up their MAC Commonwealth schedule. Gametime is scheduled for 11:00 A
