Cogill's Last Second Goal Leads Alvernia Past Arcadia, 3-2

Glenside, Pa. (Sept. 11, 2022) - A goal by Ryan Cogill with six second remaining in regulation broke the 2-2 tie and led Alvernia University (2-1-1) to a 3-2 win over Arcadia University (3-2) on Sunday afternoon in non-conference men's soccer action at Arcadia.

Alvernia held a 2-0 lead after the first half, but Arcadia equalized it at 2-2 with two goals in the final 16 minutes of the second half.

It looked like the game would be heading towards Alvernia's second tie of the season, but Alvernia was awarded a corner kick as the final seconds of regulation ticked away. Nick Denlinger sent the kick in, but it sailed long as it went past the far post of the goal. Nick Willson redirected it back towards net, where Cogill was crashing to deflect it in to give Alvernia the 3-2 win.

Alvernia fired off four shot opportunities in the opening 19 minutes of action, and the Golden Wolves connected on their fifth try when Denlinger scored on a shot in the 20th minute that arched over the keepers' reach to put Alvernia on the board, 3-0. The goal marked Denlinger's third in as many games.

The Golden Wolves extended their lead to 2-0 late in the 38th minute when Cameron Rowe found Connor Kraycik off the right post. Kraycik sent in a hard shot that snuck in between the keepers' reach and the post.

Alvernia held the 2-0 lead for 36 minutes until Arcadia got on the board with a goal in the 74th minute.

The Knights then tied it up at 2-2 in the 84th minute before Cogill scored the game winner five minutes later.

Evan Solley played all 90 minutes in net for Alvernia, making seven saves in the win.

The Golden Wolves are back in action on Wednesday at Elizabethtown. The game is Alvernia's annual Kicks for Cancer game with the Blue Jays.
