Stevenson Sweeps Alvernia, 3-0

Owings Mill, Md (Sept. 13, 2022) - Stevenson University (8-0, 2-0) defeated Alvernia University (4-3, 1-1) in straight sets on Tuesday night as the Mustangs defeated Alvernia 3-0 in MAC Commonwealth women's volleyball action at Stevenson.

The Mustangs took down Alvernia 25-13, 25-19, and 25-17 to remain undefeated on the season.

In the first set of the night, Stevenson jumped out to an early 6-3 lead before Alvernia battled back to take the lead at 8-6. The Mustangs committed three attack errors and Alvernia picked up another two points off a kill and an ace from Rachel Sipling.

Alvernia's lead did not last long as the Mustangs responded with a 16-2 run to swing all momentum their way and take a 22-10 lead over Alvernia. Later in the set, the Golden Wolves held off one set point on a kill by Sipling before the Mustangs closed out the set with a Haley Hoover kill.

Set two saw the Mustangs hold a slight 7-5 edge over the Golden Wolves before Alvernia tied it up at 7-7 with back-to-back kills from Juliana McGlone.

Stevenson and Alvernia traded points until Alvernia went on a quick 5-0 burst to go from trailing the Mustangs 15-13, to leading them 17-15. The 5-0 run was off the serve of Sipling and saw kills by Allie Evangelista, McGlone, and Sipling.

Alvernia's lead again did not last long as the Mustangs went on an 8-0 run to take a 23-17 lead. An attack error by Alvernia later in the set finished off the set with the Mustangs taking the 25-19 set win.

Stevenson wasted no time getting to work in set three, leading 14-5 midway through and extending it to 17-6.

Alvernia made a brief push with the Golden Wolves picking up five points to get within five, 19-14, but the Mustangs pulled back away with a 4-0 burst to lead 23-14.

The Golden Wolves held off match point twice with attack errors on the Mustangs before a kill by Stevenson's Sarah Kroedel put an end to the match with a 25-17 set win for Stevenson.

Sipling finished the night with 10 kills and 37 attacks with two service aces. Patricia Falar finished with 11 assists, and Abigail McGinley had 15 digs.
