Women's Volleyball Falls to Elizabethtown, 3-1

Elizabethtown, Pa. (Sept. 15, 2022) - Alvernia University (4-4) fell to Elizabethtown College (7-1) in a 3-1 decision on Thursday night in non-conference women's volleyball at Elizabethtown.

The Blue Jays took sets one, two, and four by at least 10 points. The Golden Wolves edged Elizabethtown 25-23 in set two.

Alvernia started off the first set with an early 3-0 lead before Elizabethtown went on an 11-1 run to swing all momentum in its favor, 11-4. The Golden Wolves battled back to within five, 17-12, but Elizabethtown handedly took set one, 25-15.

The Golden Wolves responded in set two to even the match at 1-1. The Blue Jays held an 11-9 win early until Alvernia went on a 6-2 run with points off four different Golden Wolves. Alvernia held a 20-14 lead later in the set after a kill by Emma Bowles, but Elizabethtown did not go down without a fight. The Blue Jays got within one, 20-19, until Alvernia was able to put some distance between them with a quick 4-0 burst to go up 24-19.

The Blue Jays fought off set point four times to get back within one, 24-23, but Alvernia was able to put away the set on a kill by Rachel Sipling.

Alvernia held an early lead in set three until Elizabethtown pulled away on a 6-0 run to go up 14-5 on Alvernia. Elizabethtown never looked back as the Blue Jays took the third set 25-10.

Elizabethtown then went on to cruise to a 25-14 fourth set win as the Blue Jays took the match 3-1.

Sipling finished the night with 11 kills on 50 attacks, Patricia Falar finished with 15 assists.

Alvernia is back in action on Wednesday hosting Widener.
