Strong Second Half Powers Alvernia Past Susquehanna, 3-1

Reading, Pa. (Sept. 21, 2022) - Alvernia University (4-1-3) scored two second half goals to defeat Susquehanna University (0-5-2) 3-1 on Wednesday evening in non-conference men's soccer action at Alvernia.

With the game locked at 1-1 after over 75 minutes of action, Alvernia scored on a Eli Klinger goal to break the 1-1 tie. Ten minutes later, Connor Kraycik scored his second of the night to put the game out of reach at 3-1.

Alvernia did not allow a shot on goal in the second half.

The Golden Wolves had a few early looks on net, but Susquehanna's keeper Gerrit Stech made some fantastic saves to keep Alvernia off the board.

Susquehanna would end up striking first in the contest with a goal in the 25th minute to go up 1-0.

It appeared that the River Hawks would take the 1-0 lead into the second half, but Alvernia had other plans. In the 45th minute, Cameron Rowe back-kicked the ball to Kraycik, who beat a defender and fired it into net to even the contest at 1-1.

Alvernia again had a few early opportunities in the second half to break the tie, but could not convert. It took Alvernia into the 78th minute to break the tie when Rowe beat a trio of River Hawk defenders and found Klinger off his left side. Rowe passed it over and Klinger shot past the keeper to break the 1-1 tie and put Alvernia in front, 2-1.

Ten minutes later, Alvernia extended its lead when Gabe Wunderlich dribbled down field and passed to Kraycik off the left side. Kraycik took it the rest of the way to add the insurance goal for the Golden Wolves, 3-0.

Evan Solley finished the contest with five saves in net for the win. Kraycik finished with two goals, and Rowe had two assists.

Alvernia is back in action on Sunday as the Golden Wolves host Montclair State.
