Alvernia Sweeps Rosemont, 3-0

BOX SCORE Rosemont, Pa (Sept. 27, 2022) - Alvernia University (6-6) swept Rosemont University (3-7), 3-0, on Tuesday night in non-conference women's volleyball action at Rosemont. 

Rosemont got off to a quick start in the first set, jumping out to an early 7-2 lead before the Golden Wolves bounced back to cut the lead to 11-9. Rachel Sipling, Allie Evangelista and Molly Gaffney all had kills for Alvernia. 

Rosemont would extend its lead to 16-9 after a five point run that would prompt an Alvernia timeout. 

The Golden Wolves responded right away after the timeout, ripping off an 8-1 scoring run that tied the set at 17. Kayleigh Kehler tallie two aces and a kill during the rally. 

Alvernia and Rosemont traded points back and forth before Rosemont took a 23-20 lead late in the third set. 

Alvernia would storm back, scoring five straight points to win the first set 25-23 with Juliana McGlone hammering home two kills and Abigail McGinley adding an ace. 

The Ravens would jump out to an early 7-5 lead in the second set before Alvernia stormed back to take a 13-8 lead over Rosemont. Sipling tallied three straight aces during the run and Evangelista added two kills. 

Both teams would trade points back and forth with Alvernia holding onto a 15-11 lead. 

The Golden Wolves would close out the second set with a 10-3 scoring run, taking the second set 25-14. Jamie Pierce tallied two aces, with Patricia Falar adding a kill and Sipling ended the set with an ace for Alvernia. 

Alvernia and Rosemont went back and forth to start the third set with Alvernia taking a three point lead at 13-10. Alvernia went on to close out the set with a 25-18 win for the 3-0 match sweep. 

At the midway point of the third set, Sipling led Alvernia with a total of eight kills on 19 attacks, and Allie Evanglista had seven kills on 11 attacks. Sipling also had five aces through the midpoint of the third set.

Alvernia is back in action on Thursday hosting PSU Harrisburg.
