Reading, Pa. (Sept. 4, 2022) - Bryn Mawr College (2-0) needed just one goal to defeat Alvernia University (1-1) in a 1-0 decision on Sunday afternoon in non-conference field hockey action at Alvernia. 

Alvernia's Madison Speece fired off the first shot of the game, but it was saved by Bryn Mawr goalie Maggie Titus.

Alvernia's defense kept the Owls out of the shot column for nearly the entire opening frame, but Alvernia goalie Lexi Boettcher was peppered with two shots in the final minute of the first quarter during multiple penalty corner opportunities by the Owls. Boettcher was able to keep the Owls off the board to keep it a 0-0 game going into the second frame.

The Owls carried their shooting momentum into the second quarter, out shooting Alvernia 8-2. But, Alvernia's defense held off Bryn Mawr to keep it scoreless going into the half.

Bryn Mawr was able to break through in the 40th minute when Novy Goetgeluk fired in two shots that were saved by Boettcher. She picked up her own rebound and was able to push the third attempt through to put Bryn Mawr on the board for a 1-0 lead.

Alvernia put up six shots in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter, but Bryn Mawr was able to stop the Golden Wolves to hold onto its 1-0 lead. 

The Golden Wolves were unable to get a shot off the final minutes of regulation as Bryn Mawr took the 1-0 win.

Boettcher matched her career-high with 13 saves in net.

Alvernia returns to action on Tuesday at Gettysburg.
