Gettysburg, Pa. (Sept. 6, 2022) - A goal by Olivia Gehris in the 57th minute was all Alvernia University (2-1) needed to take a 1-0 win over Gettysburg College on Tuesday night in non-conference field hockey action at Gettysburg.

Alvernia's Hailey Miller applied most of Alvernia's early pressure, with Miller recording four of Alvernia's five shot opportunities in the first half. Alvernia outshot the Bullets 5-1 in the opening 30 minutes.

The Golden Wolves and Bullets continued to play back-and-forth most of the second half, with neither team able to take advantage of a total of 15 corners - eight for Alvernia and seven for Gettysburg. 

With time winding down, Gettysburg was attempting to flip the field to their offensive half when Alvernia's Felicia Getz picked the ball and kept away from multiple Bullets before finding Kathryn Palmer up high. Palmer sent the ball in towards goal where a Bullet defender miss-hit and redirected the ball to the stick of Olivia Gehris who was crashing in. Gehris quickly shot the ball past the Gettysburg goalie to put Alvernia up 1-0 with just under four minutes to play.

The Bullets had a late corner opportunity in the final seconds of regulation to try to equalize it, but Alvernia goalie Lexi Boettcher made a save with her feet and the Alvernia defense cleared the ball to secure the 1-0 Alvernia victory.

Boettcher finished with five saves in net for the 1-0 shutout win.

The Golden Wolves are back in action on Saturday hosting Wilkes University.
