Golden Wolves Draw With Rutgers-Camden on Late Equalizer

Keen Scores in 82nd Minute to Tie Game at 2-2

Camden, NJ (Sept. 7, 2022) - Alvernia University (0-1-2) scored an equalizer in the 82nd minute to force a 2-2 tie against Rutgers-Camden (0-1-1) on Wednesday night in non-conference women's soccer action at Camden.

With just under nine minutes to play, Gabriella Fontana found Kalyn Keen on the left side of the box. Keen fired off a shot and got it past the Camden Keeper to tie the game up at 2-2.

It is Alvernia's second consecutive tie in the first season that the NCAA took away overtime in non-playoff soccer games.

The Raptors struck first, with Maresa Saverese netting a goal early in the seventh minute of action.

Alvernia's Heather Perna put Alvernia's first shot on net in the 21st minute, but the attempt was saved as the Raptors kept Alvernia off the board.

Three minutes later, in the 24th minute, Rutgers-Camden committed a foul in the box resulting in a penalty kick opportunity for the Golden Wolves. Haley Dougherty stepped up to take the attempt for Alvernia and converted the opportunity to even the game up at 1-1.

The game stayed tied for just seven minutes as Rutgers-Camden scored its second of the evening on a free kick opportunity to go up 2-1.

Alvernia was held to just one more shot opportunity the rest of the first half - a Dougherty shot that sailed high - as Alvernia trailed Rutgers-Camden 2-1 going into the half.

The Golden Wolves, behind Alvernia keeper Brynn Bock, held off three early shot attempts in the opening five minutes of the second half to stay within one.

Alvernia and Rutgers-Camden continued to trade shots with no success until Keen broke through in the 82nd minute to tie it up.

Bock made a save in the 85th minute to block the would-be go-ahead goal and keep the game knotted at 2-2, where it ended in a tie five minutes later.

Bock finished with eight saves in net for Alvernia.

The Golden Wolves are back in action on Saturday at Penn State Berks.
