Chargers Down Golden Wolves 3-1 in Home Opener

Reading, Pa (September 8, 2022) - Lancaster Bible College (2-1) defeated Alvernia University (1-1-1) 3-1 in non-conference men's soccer action on Thursday at Alvernia.

The Golden Wolves outshot the Chargers 24-12 but fell short after the Chargers netted two quick second half goals.

Lancaster Bible fired three shots on goal within the first ten minutes of play but could not put any past Alvernia keeper Evan Solley, who saved all three.

Alvernia's Ryan Cogill tallied three shots in the first 30 minutes for the Golden Wolves while Gabe Wunderlich and Evan Bauer also had shots in the opening half hour.

The Chargers struck first when Ben Nolt found the back of the net in the 32nd minute of the game to put the Chargers up 1-0.

The Golden Wolves continued to put pressure on the Chargers with Justin Fetrow and Cameron Rowe both firing shots that were saved late in the first half.

The Chargers opened up the second half when Clark Shreiner found Owen Nell who found the back of the net to extend the Lancaster Bible lead to 2-0 in the 47th minute.

Just over a minute later, Lancaster Bible's Clark Shreiner converted a penalty kick to put the Charger up 3-0 with just over 42 minutes left to play.

The Golden Wolves would not go down without a fight as they ripped off six shots in the next 15 minutes.

The Golden Wolves would pull one back in the 63rd minute when Nick Denglinger smashed home a shot with his left boot that beat Lancaster Bible's goalkeeper to cut the Charger lead to two heading into the final 30 minutes of the contest.

The Golden Wolves would continue to apply the pressure as they rattled off six shots in the final 25 minutes of play, but were unable to find the back of the net.

Ryan Cogill led the Golden wolves with six shots, three of which were on target. Nick Willson finished with five shots and Gabe Wunderlich tallied three shots.

Alvernia's Evan Solley finished with five saves in net for the Golden Wolves.
