Williams in First, Alvernia Second, Through First Day of the Battle at Bulle Rock

Havre de Grace, Md. (Oct. 16, 2023) - Through the first round of the two-day Battle at Bulle Rock, Alvernia University sits in second place overall and Shawn Williams sits atop the leaderboard after posting a 1-over 73.

The Golden Wolves, who posted a team score of 315 are 11 strokes back of York College. Williams is two strokes ahead of both Jacob Fripp and Matt Salter, both of York.

Williams put together a spectacular front nine, posting a 1-under 35 at the turn. Williams started his day with a birdie on the first hole and, following three straight pars, moved to 2-under with a birdie on the fifth hole. He gave two back after finding trouble on the seventh, but rebounded with a birdie on the eighth and a par on the ninth.

Williams stayed hot on the back nine, posting four straight pars and moving to 2-under on his round with a birdie on the 14th. He remained at 2-under through16 holes, but found trouble on 17 and 18 to finish his round at 1-over 73.

Finishing in second for Alvernia and sitting at t-8th overall is Matthew Gagliardi with a round of 78. Gagliardi's opening round was highlighted by eight pars and birdies on the 4th and 17th holes.

In third for Alvernia and in T-14th overall is Jack Lynam. Lynam finished round one with a score of 81. Lynam posted two birdies on his round and five pars.

Rounding out Alvernia's counting scores on day one was Jackson Hoovler with a round of 83. Hoovler sits in t-21st with two birdies and six pars.

Jakob Chapman played as Alvernia's fifth and finished with a t-36 round of 94.

Williams and Alvernia close things out tomorrow for the final round of the Battle of Bulle Rock.
