Frederick, Md. (Oct. 18, 2023) - Alvernia University (6-8, 2-2) used three first half goals to secure a 3-0 win over Hood College (9-6, 0-4) on Wednesday night in MAC Commonwealth field hockey action at Hood. 

Alvernia got on the board with an untimed penalty stroke as the first quarter came to a close. Brianna Burkholder took the stroke opportunity for Alvernia, and converted the attempt to give Alvernia the 1-0 lead through the first quarter.

Four minutes into the second frame, Alvernia tacked onto its lead as Kathryn Palmer found Hailey Miller and Miller fired on goal to give Alvernia the 2-0 advantage. Palmer then took it herself five minutes later and scored one of her own to give Alvernia the 3-0 lead with just over five minutes to play in the first half.

Alvernia took the 3-0 lead into the break and carried it the rest of the way. The Golden Wolves held Hood to just one shot in the second half to preserve the shutout win.

Palmer led Alvernia with a goal and an assist, and Lexi Boettcher picked up the win in goal for Alvernia.

The Golden Wolves are back in action on Saturday at home hosting #4 Messiah University.
