Reading, Pa (October 26, 2023) - Albright College won four of the six singles matches en route to a 7.5-1.5 victory over Alvernia University in the annual Yocum Cup Thursday afternoon at Berkshire Country Club. 

Shawn Williams won his singles match 3&1 and Jack Lynam halved his match to earn Alvernia's only points for the cup. 

Jakob Chapman faced off against Chris DiRita from Albright with DiRita taking the match 4&2. DiRita was up three through six holes but Chapman tallied wins on two of the next three holes to cut the deficit to one down after the front nine. DiRita then won four of the final seven holes to close the match out on the 16th and secure the 4&2 victory over Chapman. 

Andrew Bauer and Albright's Ben Egin faced off in the second singles match with Egin taking the match one up after 18. Egin was up three through four holes but Bauer took three of the final five holes on the front nine to square the match heading into the turn. Egin then regained the lead and pushed it to two up after 13 holes but Bauer responded to square the match after 15 holes. Egin then won the 17th hole and halved the 18th to secure the one up victory. 

Matthew Gagliardi faced off against Albright's Evan Twyman in the third match of the day with Twyman taking the match by a score of 3&2. Twyman held a commanding four up lead after nine holes but Gagliardi cut the lead to three up after Twyman went up five but Twyman held on to close the match out on the 16th and secure the 3&2 victory. 

Shawn Williams took on Ablright's Chuck Bailey in the fourth singles match of the day and secured the only full point for the Golden Wolves all Cup. Williams was up as much as three after five holes but Bailey cut that led to just one after eight holes but a bogey on the ninth saw Williams go two up after nine. Bailey then cut the Williams lead to just one after 15 holes but Williams responded with a birdie on 16 and another on 17 to close the match out and secure the 3&1 victory. 

Jackson Hoovler played in the fifth match for Alvernia and took on Albright's Sam Elsen who won the match by a score of 3&2. Hoovler birdied the first to take an early one up lead on Elsen but Elsen quickly grabbed the lead after taking holes two and three to take a one up lead. Elsen extended the lead to as much as two up through seven but Hoovler cut it back to one after the first nine holes. Elsen then pushed the lead to three up after 12 holes and halved the final four holes and close the match out on number 16 to secure the 3&2 victory.

Alvernia's Jack Lynam faced off against Albright's Jonatan Liljeblad in the final match of the Cup with Lyman and Liljeblad halving the match to grab Alvernia's other half point. Liljeblad grabbed the early lead after a birdie on the first but Lynam grabbed the lead back after a birdie on the third and a costly double by Liljeblad on the par five fourth. Lynam and Liljeblad halved the next four holes before Liljeblad won the ninth, tenth and 11th holes of the match to take a two up lead through 11. Lynam squared the match back up by taking the 12th, 14th and then grabbed the lead after taking the 15th hole as well, Liljeblad then squared the match on the 16th and the players then halved the final two holes of the match to halve the match after 18. 

Albright tallied 4.5 points to Alvernia's 1.5 on day two to secure the 7.5-1.5 victory over Alvernia and retain the Yocum Cup. 

Alvernia is back in action on Sunday when they travel to Las Vegas to compete in the NCAA Fall Preview at Boulder Creek Golf Club.
