Nashua, N.H.(October 28, 2023) - Sean Kenny scored a third period equalizer as Alvernia University (1-0-1) played to a 2-2 tie against Rivier University (0-1-1) in a non-conference men's ice hockey matchup Saturday night at Rivier. 

The Raiders scored two first period goals but a goal in the second period and a Kenny goal in the third saw the Golden Wolves tie the game at two. The teams then played a five minute overtime period but neither team could find the back of the net as the game finished in a 2-2 tie.

Rivier got on the board first in the 11th minute of the first period when Devon Jolley assisted Jack Tos who scored a powerplay goal to put the Raiders up 1-0. 

Rivier made it two just two minutes later when Damon Kiyawasew and Nicolas Paolucci assisted Cormac Hayes on another powerplay as the Raiders took a 2-0 advantage into the first intermission. 

The Golden Wolves fired 20 shots at the Rivier goal in the first 15 minutes of the second period with 12 of them going on target but Rivier goalie Will Augustine saved all 12 on goal to keep the game at 2-0. 

Alvernia finally found the back of the net when Jordan Gagnon connected with Kyle Patton who fired his shot past the Raiders goalie and into the back of the net to cut the Rivier lead to one, 2-1 heading into the final intermission. 

Alvernia continued to threaten in the first ten minutes of the third period with the Golden Wolves firing 14 shots at the Raiders goal. The Golden Wolves defense also continued to frustrate the Raiders as Rivier only sent five shots at the Alvernia net in the first ten minutes of the period. 

Alvernia found an equalizer with just over eight minutes left in the game when Matthew Davies and Patton connected with Kenny who found the back of the net and tied the game at two late in the game. 

Rivier fired five shots at the Alvernia net in the final eight minutes but Alvernia goalie Ian Graiff saved all five of them to keep the Raiders out of the goal and send the game into overtime locked at two. 

The Raiders recorded nine shots in the overtime period with six being on goal but Alvernia's Graiff came up with some massive saves to deny the Raiders a winner. 

Alvernia's Logan vande Meerakker had a last second breakaway opportunity but his shot was saved by Rivier's Augustine as the game ended in a 2-2 tie after 65 minutes of hockey. 

Graiff tallied 36 shots in net for the Golden Wolves in his season debut.

Patton led the Golden Wolves with a goal and an assist, Kenny added a goal and Davies and Gagnon both recorded assists. Patton and vande Meerakker both recorded five shots on goal for the Golden Wolves and Christian Dahl, Will White and Gagnon all blocked two shots apiece. 

Alvernia is back in action next Friday when they host Nuemann at 3:30 PM in their home opener at BodyZone.
