Franklin's Hat Trick Leads Alvernia Past Anna Maria, 5-0

Paxton, Mass. (Oct. 28, 2023) - Alvernia University (2-0-0) completed the opening weekend sweep over Anna Maria College (0-2-0) as the Golden Wolves downed the Amcats, 5-0, on Saturday afternoon in non-conference women's ice hockey action at Anna Maria.

The Amcats started out sending in four shots in the opening four minutes. But, Alvernia's defense behind goalie Juliana Rodgers kept the Amcats off the board early.

Alvernia then strung off a slew of shots over the next two minutes, and broke through early in the seventh minute as Shae Hudec found Gillian Evans to give Alvernia the 1-0 lead.

A minute later, Alvernia went on a power play following a tripping penalty on the Amcats. Alvernia had three shots in the power play before the game moved to 4v4 after a hooking call on Alvernia.

Later in the period, Alvernia had a 5v3 opportunity for about a minute following two penalties on the Amcats, but Alvernia could not add onto its lead. The game would remain 1-0 through the remainder of the first period.

The game remained 1-0 for nearly the entire second period. With just 14 seconds remaining in the second frame, Khenzie Connick connected with Julia Franklin to give Alvernia the 2-0 lead going into the third period.

Alvernia came into the third period firing and made it a 3-0 game in the ninth minute as Hudec connected with Alex Robertson off a faceoff to give the Golden Wolves the three goal advantage with 11 minutes to play.

Alvernia wasn't done there. Seven minutes later, the duo of Connick and Franklin connected again as Franklin scored her second of the game to make it a 4-0 contest with four minutes to play.

Franklin then secured the hat trick with 43 seconds to play as Bradley sent a faceoff win over to Franklin, and Franklin fired on net for the 5-0 lead and a 5-0 win for the Golden Wolves.

Franklin's hat trick is the sixth occurrence of a hat trick in program history, and Franklin becomes the fifth player to score one. She also scored one in a 4-0 win over Neumann on November 18, 2022.

Hudec and Connick finished with two assists each. Along with her goal, Evans led Alvernia with a 9-for-10 performance in the faceoff circle. Carolyn Burton finished with a team-high five blocks, and Rodgers made 28 saves in net for the Golden Wolves.

Alvernia is back in action on Friday hosting King's at 7:30 PM.
